Located in an exclusive neighbourhood with easy access to the city centre, this old “hôtel de maître” of the 1930’s was lovingly restored with a determinedly spirited approach toward contemporary design. The general idea was to create an atmosphere that reflects a contemporary forward-looking design while maintaining the spirit of the past.
Styled by Belgian architect and interior designer Thierry Hens, the reception looks more like a private home than a hotel – it’s completely open with no desk separating you from the hotel staff. A salon features contemporary design classics such as a Charles Eames rocking chair and Ingo Maurer lights. The breakfast room has just one large table, so the guests sit together in the morning around the table d’hôte under the fantastic Campari Light lamps. And also in the rooms Cubo glass television sets by Marco Bellini, Louis Ghost chairs and la Bohême tabourets by Philip Starck .
The interior is a combination of dark grey walls and bright red stairs and doors. The half-transparent red curtains are also blood red and create a surreal atmosphere in the rooms.
The surreal feeling actually starts in the street where the guests are welcomed by a – what else - bright red cow, a left over from the ever so popular Art on Cows exhibition of 2003, the year the new “Monty “ was launched again.
The Monty Small Design Hotel is one of the first boutique hotels in the Belgian Capital and offers a personalised approach to the welcoming of the guest whilst still offering all the modern amenities today’s seasoned traveller is looking for.
